About Me

Hi, my name is Jake Lee-Savage and I’m an award winning sound recordist, director and folk musician.

I am a graduate of the University of the West of England where I completed a BSc in Broadcast Audio and Music Technology. As previously stated I am a sound recordist with a particular passion for field recording whether that be capturing the sound of waves crashing and moving shingle, the incredibly loud building site next to my flat or an interview with an old boat builder.

I am also the producer of Soundlarks, a podcast in which I aim to explore nature and landscape, as well as our relationship with it, from an audio perspective. Over time the aim with this podcast is to create a show in which field recordings, folk music and spoken word can all come together to create a complex narrative which analyses the landscapes that surround us and in many ways shape us as human beings.

As well as recording a lot of sound and editing a lot of sound, I also make a lot of sound mostly through playing folk music. Having always had a keen interest in music from a young age, I eventually settled on folk as being the main area in which I like to spend time researching, producing and most of all playing! I have played in various folk settings and groups, though most notably in the duo “The Revelation Brothers” in which my musical partner and I released various albums and EP’s which can all be found on Spotify, as well as playing a variety of different gigs including at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 2018. Currently my main instruments I play are banjo, guitar and vocals, though I am still very much trying to learn the bodrán (a lockdown project).

My time is mainly split between living in rural Suffolk and bustling Bristol, though I’m often out and about travelling the country looking for new ways to interact and record different landscapes, attempting to capture the essence of what it means to live within it by looking at the sounds, folklore and stories of those who call it their home.

Asides from sound I am also a keen sailor having sailed most of my life, and buying my own very first boat last year, a 14ft GP14 named “Astra”(no, not like the vauxhall), which I keep on the River Orwell, Suffolk. I am also an enthusiastic walker and climber, spending plenty of time wandering the country from the bleak moors of Dartmoor in the South, to the wild mountains of Torridon in the far North, often with a recorder in my rucksack!
